I’m a Boston-based photographer specializing in concert, travel, and event work. I love capturing the energy of live music, the beauty of near and far-off places, and the diversity of the communities I’m a part of.
I started shooting concerts in the late 1980s, when my friends were playing in bands and we spent every weekend at shows around the tri-state area. I was just a kid taking photo classes, but once I started photographing my friends’ bands, I was hooked. More than 35 years later, I still rarely go to a show without a camera.
After coming out, I began documenting the GLBTQ+ events I was attending —from Carnival in Provincetown and Pride in NYC to Folsom Street Fair and the Marches on Washington. It felt important to capture my friends, my community and the battles waged for our rights.
As I got older, travel photography became another passion. From Rome to the Galápagos, San Francisco to Montreal, Amsterdam to London, my camera has come everywhere with me. Recent trips include Iceland, Portugal, Costa Rica, and Austria.
In 2013, a friend invited me to go to Burning Man for the first time, and I’ve gone back nearly every year since. The art there is other-worldly, and I love capturing the magic of seeing it in the Black Rock Desert—especially at night.
Most of my published work comes from concert photography. I’ve contributed to books, magazines, records, and merchandise, and I’ve built a large archive spanning thousands of bands—from Boston to Louisville, from small punk shows to arena stages.
